Sperm Freezing is the process of collecting, analyzing, freezing and storing a man’s sperm. The samples are later used for fertility treatments or donated to other couples or individuals. It can be beneficial for men who experience a deteriorating quantity and quality of sperms. It can also offer a solution for men who need to undergo major surgeries for other medical reasons. Sperm are provided by or extracted from the male partner and the healthiest sperm among them are preserved.

Step 1: Appointment with a Specialist

The patients visit the clinic for a consultation with a fertility specialist and an embryologist. A host of medical tests are performed to determine the sperm count, along with their quality and motility.

Step 2: Preparation

The patient may be provided medication that enhances hormonal stimulation, which increases the number of healthy sperm.

Step 3: Sperm Collection

The male partner provides a sperm sample on the stipulated day. In some cases, the sperm may need to be extracted from the testicle. Semen can also be provided on multiple occasions to increase the number of batches of sperm in storage.

Step 4: Sperm Freezing

The healthiest sperm are then frozen. Usually, the sperm are frozen for one year. However, the duration can be extended with the consent of the couple.
